Goal: The Special Education Department will develop a presentation for the February Institute Day on Strategies to Support All Learners. Teams from the Special Education department presented this information to all the departments in the school.

September 2022- January 2023
Goal: Explore the toolkits for Latinx/Hispanic Month, LGBTQ Month, and Indigenous People Month on the Canvas page in small groups.

This year a team of special education teachers will create the Disability Awareness Toolkit.

September 2021 - January 2022
Goal: All special education staff members will develop a personal equity goal. Various members of the Special Education department will be facilitating discussion groups during the 2021-2022 school year centered around race.
Status: Complete and ongoing

Goal: In the 2020-2021 school year, 80% of the Special Education staff will use the tools created by the department to initiate at least one conversation or lesson (depending on your professional role) focused on race by June 1, 2021.

September 2019 - January 2020
Goal: The Special Education Department will develop tools to facilitate racial conversation in the classroom. The department will use 20 minutes of every monthly department meeting dedicated to equity work. The department will develop tools to facilitate racial conversations in the classroom.
We surveyed the staff regarding the number of staff members who have completed equity work in the last 5 years. The results demonstrated that all but a few department members have completed professional development in the area of equity. We have compiled a number of tools for the department to use during equity work including norms, compass, "The N-Word" lesson, "Not a Day has Passed" and a few pertinent videos.
