This course introduces students to video as a medium for artistic expression, using the language of moving images & sound. Students can expect to work individually and collaboratively on projects that will expand their visual literacy and time-arts technical skills by using video cameras and editing software to conceptualize, edit and create short films. Experimental and traditional filmmaking methods are explored. Students are encouraged to enter their videos in national and regional film festivals. Assignments require collecting footage outside of class. This course builds a strong foundation for students interested in creating original short films, which could be viewed on the web, in a gallery setting, or experienced as a site-specific installation. Students may be required to purchase a photo kit.This course fulfills the graduation requirement for fine and/or practical arts.
