Build our capacity as teachers, support staff, and individuals on issues impacting our students in the art classroom relating to race, religion, ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, cultural identity, etc.

Goal: Focus on ways to bring awareness to the larger school community about art connections to our monthly observances through department projects, gallery exhibits, and school-wide art projects.
Focus on how students experience issues of equity in both our curriculum and our instruction. Individual and departmental PD.
Be proactive in hiring and staffing practices. Connect with programs using a wide net to broaden our diversity at New Trier. Look for teachers and staff that are committed to life-long work in equity.

Goal: The Art Department will engage in professional development and departmental readings/conversations during the 2019-2020 school year. In addition, personal reflection on experiences will help each individual explore their own biases and focus on personal equity goals.

For a second year, provide an opportunity to look closely at the art classroom demographics identifying trends and stereotypes that may or may not be visible. This lens could provide opportunities for changes.
