Driver Education
-
A student must be at least 15 years old on the first day of Driver Education class.
Driver Education is a two-phase program: theory (minimum 30 hours of classroom) and lab (minimum 6 hours of behind-the-wheel/minimum 6 hours of observation). The classroom work consists of studying traffic laws, enforcement of traffic laws, driving skills, habits, physical laws as they affect driving, responsibilities of vehicle ownership, and other related topics. The behind-the-wheel portion develops students' basic driving skills, techniques, and decision-making abilities while driving.
Advisers of students who register for only the theory (classroom) portion of Driver Education must notify the department chair. These students will not be offered behind-the-wheel instruction at a later date or receive an Instructional Driving Permit. Theory only must be taken as a pass/no-credit option.
