Dual Credit Opportunities at New Trier High School

Dual credit at New Trier offers students a unique advantage. Designed to provide students with a head start on their future endeavors, opting for dual credit is entirely optional and requires no extra workload. Instead, earning high school and college credit simultaneously is simply an additional perk that can significantly impact a student’s academic and professional journey.

The Applied Arts Department offers 13 dynamic dual credit courses that blend real-world experiences as part of our college, exploratory, career, and experiential learning pathways. Whether students choose to opt in for dual credit or not, everyone enrolled in these courses is in the same class, at the same time, with the same teacher, engaging in the same exciting projects and curriculum.

    Why Opt-In for Dual Credit?

When students choose dual credit, they engage in the same coursework, assignments, and activities as their peers – no additional workload, just extra benefits. This unique approach lets students experience applied learning with a practical edge, preparing them for future internships, careers, or further education. Plus, early college credits can significantly reduce the cost and time spent on post-secondary education.

Our dual credit courses are continually evolving to meet the demands of tomorrow’s world, helping students explore new passions, hobbies, or potential career paths. Successful completion of these courses results in a grade on the student’s New Trier High School and Oakton Community College transcripts. These credits typically transfer to most post-secondary institutions, although we recommend checking with your intended college or university for specific transfer policies.

    More about Dual Credit

Opting into dual credit isn’t just about earning credits—it’s about positioning yourself for success. These credits can apply toward future endorsements and certificates, and serve as evidence of college-level work during high school. Some universities even recognize dual credit as an indicator of academic rigor, much like AP courses.

There is a nominal fee of $25 per course for dual credit enrollment, and this fee will be charged through the student’s New Trier account after enrollment.

    FAQ: Are Credits Transferable?

Yes, credits earned through our dual credit courses are accepted by most colleges nationwide, making this a fantastic opportunity to get a head start on college. However, transferability is determined on a case-by-case basis by each institution, so it's wise to check with your intended college or university.
